Meet Kansas Thorp

About Thorp Strategic Finance

Hi, I’m Kansas Thorp, founder of Thorp Strategic Finance. After a decade in financial services, I recognized a need for high-level financial advisory and support by small and mid-sized businesses.

That’s why I started Thorp Strategic Finance: a business advisory service offering a wide array of financial and strategic solutions tailored to the unique needs of small and mid-sized companies in Northern Colorado.

I admire the drive and determination of entrepreneurs and business owners and their vision brings products, services, and economic vitality to our communities. Finance is an essential component of business operations and longevity, yet it’s often unfeasible in the form of a full-time hire.

Our goal is simple: to help you make confident, informed decisions that strengthen your business and set you up for sustainable success.

A Little About Me

My career started in private equity with small to mid-size investments in the manufacturing, services, and retail industries. When I moved to Fort Collins, I took over and ran a local accounting business that handled individual and small business bookkeeping and tax preparation. I then solo-traveled New Zealand, Australia, and parts of Asia, working a wide-range of roles from IT management to horse training. This experience taught me adaptability, creativity, and the value of understanding all angles of every system.

For the past five years, I’ve managed CU Boulder finances for multi-department operations and capital projects. The greatest lesson I’ve learned is that going into a new situation with the confidence of not knowing and the motivation to learn, is the greatest asset we can have professionally.

Numbers come naturally to me—they tell the story. But what fuels my passion is working with teams and operations to orchestrate change. That’s where strategy meets impact.
